| Severe shortage of essential commodities in Jammu: JKNP | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 5
Jammu and Kashmir National Party (JKNP) today alleged that the Jammu region was reeling under an "acute scarcity" of essential commodities with no measures in place to tide over the crisis. "There is acute scarcity of essential commodities here triggered by bandhs and curfew. But Governor N N Vohra is yet to take any measures in this direction," JKNP President, Randeep Singh Parihar told reporters here. He alleged that closing down of the public distribution system (PDS) and non-distribution of LGP gas, petrol, diesel and kerosene had worsened the situation. Hundreds of poor people in Jammu and adjoining areas are running short of rice, wheat and sugar, Parihar added. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mandeep K Bandari said efforts were on to resume PDS services soon. Curfew was in force for the fifth day today while the region witnessed 14 days of bandh ever since the Amarnath land row rocked the state. Seven people were killed during the 37-day long violent agitation. |
