| Satwant Kaur condemns police firing on demonstrators | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 5
Satwant Kaur Dogra, a prominent leader of Samba strongly condemned the police firing on peaceful demonstrators yesterday, killing two persons and injuring 25 people including women and children. She said that the firing by SSP Samba was unnecessary, brutal, barbaric act and a violation of law and added that police resorted to firing without any order from the duty magistrate. She said police and civil administration has let loose rein of terror to suppress the public and crush their genuine agitation against the discrimination meted out against peace loving people of Samba. Dogra demanded that murder case should be registered against the SSP and asked for a judicial probe and also demanded a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to each family of the deceased. She said that government should realize that repression as an instrument to bring back normalcy would not work at all. She said deployment of army, imposition of curfew and indiscriminate firing has not prevented people showing up on the streets and roads. She appealed people to keep their protest nonviolent and warned govt that things will not improve till the govt corrects the mistakes of revoking the land to SASB. She said the valiant Dogras of Jammu are nationalist, patriotic and have given supreme sacrifices while defending the boundaries of this country and they will not tolerate any more discrimination, suppression or any kind of high handedness by the government. Terming the Governor N.N. Vohra as the representative of Hurriyat, she said there is deep conspiracy hatched between Hurriyat, Kashmiri Fundamentalist and UPA govt at the centre to suppress the genuine aspirations of the people of Jammu. She said people of this country today know PDP, Congress and NC are supporting each other at the centre and are opposing each other in J&K. Appealing the PM Dr. Manmohan Singh to intervene in the matter and to restore land to SASB, condemned the political leaders from Jammu who bowed before the Kashmiri leadership and revoked the land to SASB. |
