AJHLA, others condemn killings

Expressing shock over the killing of two peaceful demonstrators at Samba yesterday in police firing, various trade organizations related to tourism and pilgrimage have charged the police cops who opened fire on the demonstrators, of murder and demanded their immediate arrest and trial for killing the innocent. They also charged Governor N.N. Vohra of giving free hands to the police and the administration to indulge in all sorts of atrocities on the protestors, which has emboldened the police to resort to unprovoked firing, killing the demonstrators.
In a joint meeting of AJHLA held today under the chairmanship of Indeerjeet Khajuria, president of association and attended among others by Kuldeep Wahi, and Rakesh Abrol, the participants also criticized the Congress leaders for sidetracking the real issue and diverting the attention of the people from the matter that is causing them deep hurt, by raising the peripheral issues. Referring to the meeting two Congress leaders with the prime minister wherein they pleaded for reconstitution of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, with all its members belonging to Jammu and Kashmir and Dr. Karan Singh to be its chairman, the leaders of the trade bodies termed it a clever device to side track the real issue, which is wrong committed by the state Governor N N Vohra and the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in cancelling the earlier order of allotting 800 kanals of land to SASB for creating facilities for the Amarnath pilgrims and the universal demand by the people of Jammu to undo the same by restoring land to SASB is a later issue, which can be discussed in a cool and calm atmosphere and taken only through amendment of the present Amarnath Shrine Act of 2000, by the state legislature or through ordinance by the governor, which is to be ratified by the state assembly with in next six months.
Instead of publically accepting the mistake committed by the party govt and apologizing for the same, the Congress leaders are only finding escape routes to wash their hands off the blunder committed by them, in surrendering before the blackmail and pressure mounted by the anti-national and religious fundamentalist elements in Kashmir and the support extended to them by the coalition partner of the Congress in the Azad government, PDP.
They further observed that Shri Amarnath Yatra is a national event, in which people all over the country, particularly the Hindus have their stake and the demand for the Shrine Board to be exclusively constituted by locals of J&K is against the concept of national integration and smacks of separatist’s tendencies.
They further opined that Dr. Karan Singh being a leader of a political party cannot be an ideal choice to head the SASB. J&K Dharmatrh Trust, whose sole trustee is Dr. Karan Singh, is already embroiled in several controversies, like commercialization of Hindu temples as well as using the same for the political clout of the former royal family.
