Mob goes berserk in Jourian, Gaghwal

On fourteenth day of the second round of ongoing agitation on the issue of Shri Amarnath Shrine land, the Police today found itself on receiving end of a strong mob which indulged into large scale violence and arson.
The mobsters launched an attack on the Jourian village in the border tehsil of Akhnoor where public property was set on fire and cops were beaten to pulp. An agitator too received serious injuries and he is reported to have lost his sight. Two cops are also stated to be in critical condition and they have been moved to the Government Medical College here.
In Kathua, curfew was clamped for three days after the violent mob uprooted the railway track at Ghagwal. The strategic railway track is reported to have suffered lost along length of nearly one kilometer. While all trains leaving from Jammu to different stations have been stranded here, those coming from other places are being terminated at Pathankote.
Reports said that in fresh incidents of violence rocked curfew bound Jammu region on Tuesday in which two policemen were killed over one dozen people were critically injured. Two photo journalists including cameraman of private news channel and policemen also received injuries in incidents of police firing and stone pelting. Four people were critically injured in Jourian where police opened firing on angry mob. Pawan Singh, Raman Sharma and Satpal received injuries during heavy use of police firing and tear gas in Akhnoor while others were injured in police firing in Jourian.
At least fourteen people received injuries among them condition of the three is stated to be critical in the Jourian incident. The incident occurred when the protestors burnt the tehsil office Jourian. Police post incharge Balvender Singh among two more identified as cop Kamal Singh and one of the relative of the chowki incharge identified as Rajinder Singh revived injuries in the clash. Protestors then set on fire the Jourian police post. In order to curb the violence police restored to firing causing injuries to eleven protestors. They were rushed to MH hospital Manda. Later sensing the condition of one Pawan Singh critical he was referred to GMC hospital where doctors informed that he had received bullet splinters in his eye causing lost of his eyesight. His condition is still stated to be critical. On having information people of Akhnoor who were attending BJP rally went berserk and started pelting stones on police. They burnt PDP office, Ex MLA Shyam Lal's office and number of police vehicles. Chowki incharge and cop were also later rushed to GMC hospital because there was no improvement in their condition, informed police officials.
In Kathua, angry protestors uprooted railway line near Ghagwal on Jammu Pathnakot route disrupting rail traffic to Jammu till last reports came in. Meanwhile senior divisional safety officer Ferozeopur division AK Mitto said over half a dozen Delhi bound trains originating from Jammu and Udhampur have been cancelled due to damaged railway track near Ghagwal on Jammu Pathankot rail route.
Else where angry protestors demanding restoration of forest land to Amarnath shrine board defied curfew in large numbers and staged protest demonstrations in JammuLarge numbe rof peace demonstration were held in Rehari, Indira Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Green Belt area,Digiana,Talab Tillo and old city area.Protestors defied curfew in Bisnah and came out on the streets in large number in village Ratnal.
The Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu -Srinagar national highway was blocked at several places by protestors blocking essential supplies to Kashmir valley.
In Samba last rites of two activists killed in police firing were performed amid tight security arrangements.
Hundreds of activists on Tuesday also blocked railway traffic on the Jammu Jallandhar railway track and uprooted portion of the railway track.In jammu city angry protestors defied curfew at several places and demanded recall of governor NN Vohra and restoration of forest land to the shrine board.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen Vinay Sharma, GOC Rising Star Corps arrived in Jammu today to reviews the security situation of Jammu. On arrival, Gen Sharma was received by Maj Gen DL Chowdhary, GOC Tiger Division and briefed on the prevailing situation.
Gen Sharma who is arriving here after the Army columns were deployed on requisitioning by the civil administration, appreciated the quick and effective response of the Army in aid to civil authority. After the briefing, Gen Sharma visited various sensitive places of Jammu where Army Internal Security Columns were deployed and interacted with local Commanders. The Corps Commander emphasized that the Army having quickly responded to the call of civil administration should execute its job with utmost professionalism. He urged the people of Jammu to maintain peace in the area in larger national interest and to the benefit of all our citizens.
