| Hari Om gives a lie to separatists’ campaign | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 6
The leadership of the All Party Hurriyat Conference(APHC) is highly upset over the demand for statehood status for the Jammu region raised by those who have been in the forefront of the agitation against the revocation of order under which 800 kanals of land had been diverted to the Amarnath Shrine Board. A senior APHC leader,Prof.Abdul Gani Bhat today said the Hurriyat Conference has been always opposed to trifurcation or bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir State but if "some in Jammu campaign for it we will not oppose it." He said "we have been treating Jammu and Kashmir as one unit but if elements wish to divide the state we cannot prevent them." In reply to a question he said after "the protesters in Jammu carried out economic blockade on Kashmir by stopping trucks carrying goods we have to seek intervention by the United Nations for ensuring a supply line by getting the Jehlum valley road reopened for traffic and trade." He said the APHC has to review the future of the biannual Durbar move under which the civil secretariat and other offices move to Jammu in the winter months."We may campaign for discarding the century old Durbar move pratice as we do not want to risk the lives of muslim employees from Kashmir if they move to Jammu in the winter." Prof. Bhat said that at present the agitation in Jammu "has cemented regional and communal divide which is unfortunate."However, the BJP vicepresident and spokesman,Prof. Hari Om,described the "insinuations of Prof.Bhat purely baseless."He said that for what Bhat calls communal or regional divide only the separatists besides the National Conference and the PDP were to be blamed for whose leaders triggered the trouble in the state. He claimed that various muslim organisations in Jammu have supported the agitation launched by the Sangarsh Samiti and a number of prominent muslims have "joined protest demonstrations in recent days." "we have made it clear that the ongoing agitation is not directed against any community,"he added. Hari Om said that the successive state Governments have "been responsible for aggravating the level of regional discrimination and the way the former Congress led Government got the land order revoked was another instance of injustice to people of the Jammu region."Referring to the separatists charge of economic blockade Hari Om said that for the last over one month people in Jammu have been facing hardships owing to the nonavailability of all essential and consumer goods "but we do not clamour over this economic blockade." He said already over 200 trucks loaded with consumer items have reached Srinagar during the last three days and still separatists cry about economic blockade. |
