Kargil War,1999 coup to figure in Musharraf's book
9/7/2006 8:24:00 PM

Islamabad, Sept 7 The Kargil War and the 1999 military coup ousting then premier Nawaz Sharif are among the host of issues which figure prominently in Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's soon-to-be released autobiography.

The book titled 'In the Line of Fire - A Memoir,' takes its name from the famous Hollywood film starring Clint Eastwood.

It would be released by Musharraf in New York on September 25. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan would also attend the book launch, according to a media report.

The book reportedly ghost written by Musharraf's long- time friend and Pakistani columnist Humayun Gohar and spread over 368 pages, is said to contain everything about Musharraf - from his family life and his days as a soldier to the overthrow of an elected government in 1999.

It contains an account of some of the key decisions he took, including the Kargil war and Pakistan joining the US-led global war on terror.

The hardcover copies of Musharraf's autobiography have been priced at USD24, whereas the price within the country will be around Rs. 1200, The Nation daily reported.

The Internet bookseller Amazon said it will sell copies online at a little over USD 17.

It is said that owing to the key role played by Musharraf in regional developments, several British and American publishers evinced interest in his autobiography. However, it was Simon & Schuster which signed up the president to write his memoirs in early 2005.

Musharraf has reportedly been given an advance of a million dollars.
