Following organised efforts by the administration to normalize movement of load carriers on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and instilling confidence among fruit growers and drivers, the flow of trucks carrying essentials and fresh fruit to and from Kashmir has considerably increased over the last couple of days.
The steps taken by the government include providing escort service by the army to load carriers from Banihal to Lakhanpur which has generated confidence among fruit growers of the valley and drivers of the trucks carrying the horticulture produce and other merchandise to and from Kashmir.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman today said that during the last 24 hours since 5 p.m. yesterday, 102 load carriers left Srinagar for Jammu. These include 64 laden with fresh fruit, 22 carrying vegetables and 16 with other merchandise.
In the meanwhile, 145 trucks and tankers also arrived in Srinagar during the same period. The spokesman said that the arrivals include 38 trucks of rice, 17 of sheep, 4 of poultry, 10 of flour and atta and 6 of fresh fruit. Besides, 10 tankers, including 4 petrol, 3 diesel and1 each kerosene oil, aviation fuel and LPG, also arrived in the winter capital. Another 70 load carriers of merchandise also reached here during the same period. Further, 75 cartons of medicine including life saving drugs arrived in Srinagar by air today.
The spokesman said that the measures taken by the administration would further improve the situation in the coming days. He said the fruit growers of the Valley have been assured that adequate steps, including providing army escort, have been taken to transport their produce to fruit markets outside Kashmir. This, he said, has instilled confidence among them leading to increase in fruit export from the Valley.
