| Manjit escapes in mob attack | | | Early Times Reporter Vijaypur | Aug 6
Despite his repeated appeals over past several days to resolve the present crisis as per “wishes and aspirations of the people”, the former Minister and MLA Vijaypur Manjit Singh today came under heavy mob attack at his residence. A strong mob of some 300 people drove three stone and brick laden tactor-trolleys to the private residence of Manjit Singh and started pelting stones. The trolleys also carried empty liquor bottles which were thrown at the residential premises of the former Minister. Protestors raised slogans against the Peoples Democratic Party and accused of being responsible for the present impasse. A heavy posse of Police and paramilitary personnel at the guard duty stood as mute spectator to the attack. The situation could be saved only after intervention of Army which arrived there after 25 minutes of free for all situations. The former Minister and his family, who were inside their residence, however escaped unhurt. Manjit Singh, it may be mentioned here, has been all along calling for an early resolution of the issue as per wishes and aspirations of the people. Only the previous day he had made an appeal to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for an intervention. |
