| Jammu echoes heard around 7 Race Course, Jantar Mantar | | | Early Times Reporter New Delhi/Jammu | Aug 6
As the fire of Amarnath Shrine land spreads far and off, some parts on New Delhi, particularly the areas around Jantar and Mantar and Race Course Road witnessed huge protests over the continuing impasse. Reports said that Bhartiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti created a flutter outside Prime Minister's residence here demanding entry into the all-party meeting on Amarnath issue but was taken into custody by police. Just minutes before the meeting was to begin, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and some of her associates attempted to storm into the official Race Course residence of the Prime Minister for participating in it. She was not an invitee to the meeting. They staged a dharna at the main gate despite police warning them to vacate the place. Bharti and her associates were immediately taken into custody and taken away to a nearby Chanakyapuri police station. Bharti, who arrived in her car, surprised the elite special protection group personnel by trying to cross the security barrier by trying to get under it at the exit gate. Media personnel who were camping outside the venue of the all-party meet promptly rushed towards Bharti. Sensing trouble, women personnel of the Delhi police then went upto the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and took her into a police van. A few supporters of Bharti along with former Union minister Sangh Priya Gautam were also whisked away by the police. An additional posse of policemen soon arrived as the incident finished. Meanwhile, around 300 Kashmiri Hindus Wednesday carried out a protest rally here demanding resignation of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohara and transfer of land to a temple trust. The protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar in the heart of the capital and marched towards Parliament House but were stopped by the police near the Parliament Street police station. They carried banners, placards and chanted slogans against Governor Vohra. A minor clash ensued between them and the police when the protesters tried to remove the barriers put up to stop them. But no one was injured. "We are firm on our demands. We want Vohra to resign immediately and land should be allotted to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board," said Aditya Raj Kaul, one of the protesters. The protest was organised by the Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti along with various other Kashmiri Hindu groups like Roots In Kashmir, Panun Kashmir, and Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch. |
