| Poached by NC, MLC risks seat | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 6
Amidst the raging crisis engulfing most of Jammu and Kashmir the routine politics may be low for a while but it is not down and out. At least the series of poaching between the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party is on and is redefining the political landscape of Kashmir. Two days back one of the founder members of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bilal Ahmed Khan Lodhi deserted the party and joined National Conference. Lodhi, a Pahari leader, belonging to Badgam district of central Kashmir was an important stuff with the PDP. Lodhi was received by a warm welcome in the National Conference in Srinagar at a function presided over by Dr Farooq Abdullah. However, three days after his joining National Conference, the PDP has written to the Legislative Council Secretariat to unseat Lodhi from membership of the Upper House. He was elected as an MLC in 2004 and had still two years to go. The legal eagles in the NC camp are now studying the laws to see whether Lodhi can be expelled from Legislative Council or not. Earlier today the PDP Legislature Party Leader in the Legislative Council Nizamudin Bhat claimed that he has disqualified Bilal Lodhi from the membership of the J&K Legislative Council. While exercising powers vested in him under the Seventh Schedule of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir Bhat has disqualified Lodhi on the grounds of defection as Lodhi joined another political party and has not resigned from the membership of the council before joining NC. Nizamudin Bhat has also requested Secretary J&K Legislative Council to issue a formal bulletin to this effect and declare the seat vacant from the date Lodhi joined another political party. It will be in place to mention here that Bhat, the other day, had send a communication to the Chairman of the Council requesting him to unseat Lodhi under the provisions of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. |
