In a bid to assuage aspirations in Jammu region, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board was today dissolved with resignation of all members and the Governor NN Vohra invited the members of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) for a visit to Baltal to have an on the spot assessment of arrangements and position of the controversial land. However, on the expected lines, immediately after Governor’s fresh invitation, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti outrightly rubbished all these proposals and said that nothing less than restoration of land to the Shrine Board will end the impasse. “We are not concerned about dissolution or reconstitution of the Board…that is not on our agenda”, SAYSS Convener Leela Karan Sharma told the EARLY TIMES. He said people in the Jammu region are fighting for restoration of land to the shrine and not for a seat in the Board. Sharma bitterly reacted to the latest invitation of the Governor. He said that visit to Baltal can be a follow up process. Governor, N N Vohra, had today invited Lila Karan Sharma, Convenor of the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, along with a few other members of Sangarash Samiti to visit Baltal, base camp of the Holy Cave. In a communication dated August 5, addressed to the Convenor of the Sangarash Samiti, by Mr B B Vyas, Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer, SASB, it has been stated that it is extremely necessary to have complete clarity about the total land required by the Shrine Board at Baltal for various purposes, on temporary basis, keeping in view the land already under its use for providing facilities during the Yatra period. "Such a clarity can be secured only on a site visit to Baltal and Domail", the communication says. In his meetings with the Samiti leaders, prominent citizens of Jammu and the leaders of various political parties a few days back, the Governor had offered to reconstitute the Board for making it more vibrant and effective to cope up with the ever increasing rush of Yatris, year after year. He had also discounted the fears about dilution of the Shrine Board and assured that it will continue to be the sole authority for managing the annual Yatra. Later in the evening, the Government wrote another letter to the Samiti. On behalf of the Governor, Mr N N Vohra, his Principal Secretary, Shri B. B. Vyas, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, had written to the Shri Amarnathji Yatra Sangarash Simiti (SAYSS) and invited to them to visit the Yatra Base Camp at Baltal. The entire arrangements of the visit were to be made by the Shrine Board. After considering this suggestion, the Sangarash Simiti responded by stating that the Governor's suggestion did not relate to their core demand viz. that the order canceling the use of the land be revoked. However, to carry forward the process of dialogue and discussion so as to amicably resolve at the fundamental issues in an acceptable manner, the Governor has nominated a Committee comprising Dr. S. S. Bloeria, former Chief Secretary of J&K, Justice (Retd) G. D. Sharma, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University and Shri B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, according to a spokesperson of Raj Bhavan. The Governor hopes that the process of dialogue will recommence urgently and peace and stability will return to Jammu division at the earliest. Earlier in the day, the Government had announced the resignation of the SASB members. An official spokesman said that to facilitate the reconstitution of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), the present members have tendered their resignations to Governor, Mr N N Vohra, who is also the Chairman of the Shrine Board. "The resignations are under the activie consideration of the Governor", said a spokesman of SASB here this afternoon. It may be recaled that the Governor, in his meeting with the Shri Amarnathji Yatra Sangarash Samiti (SAYSS), had mentioned that the induction of eminent persons from Jammu and Kashmir regions would inspire confidence in the functioning of the Shrine Board. The members who have resigned are, Justice (Retd) G D Sharma, Prof Vishnu Murti Shastri, Mr Sunil Sachdeva, Mr Manoj Gaur, Dr Vimla Dhar, Professor Neerja Mattoo, Mr Raghu Modi and Dr Arun Kumar |
