| Centre created issue out of non-issue: BJP | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 7
Bharatiya Janata Party has said that it was the Union Government and its representative in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor NN Vohra, who have created serious controversy over Shri Amarnath land issue, which was a non-issue, and that it is now for them to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS), which has been spearheading the mass movement for the restoration of land for the last over 35 days. Disclosing this, state BJP vice-president and spokesman Prof. Hari Om said here today at the party headquarters that national president Raj Nath Singh and general secretary Arun Jaitley took this stand at the all-party meet, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi on Aug 6. He said Rajnath Singh candidly told the Prime Minister and the representatives of all the political parties that “if they are genuinely interested in restoring peace in the Jammu province, they have to take forthwith three specific measures which are opening dialogue with the Shri Amarnath yatra Sangharsh Samiti, re-diverting 800 kanals of land at Baltal to the SASB and recall immediately Governor NN Vohra from the state. Hari Om said that Rajnath Singh made it loud and clear that this is the only way the authorities can assuage the hurt feelings of the alienated people of Jammu and conciliate them. As far Arun Jaitley, Hari Om said that the BJP national general secretary told the all-party meet in unambiguous terms: “If Kashmir Valley is sensitive to its psyche, Jammu too has a psyche and it has to be respected. The Jammu psyche, Arun Jaitley told the meet, has now asserted and no one should ignore it”. The upshot of his whole argument was that the authorities have alienated the nationalists in Jammu to boost the separatist psyche in Kashmir. This is not acceptable to the BJP, Jaitley told the Prime Minister and others. BJP spokesman, in addition, revealed that Arun Jaitley rejected outright the idea of the government agencies conducting Shri Amarnath yatra. “ Religious affairs, including yatras, are the sole preserve of the concerned religious bodies, and, hence, SASB should be given absolute powers to manage the whole yatra and create the required facilities for pilgrims. Prof. Hari Om further revealed that both the national BJP president and general secretary clearly told everyone present there that the BJP is not opposed to the idea of dialogue over the issue, but added that it is for the government to create congenial atmosphere so that the dialogue process is taken to a logical conclusion. Both of them told the meet that there is no question of the ongoing agitation being suspended, saying “it is the legitimate right of the people to air their grievances through peaceful means.” It was because of the BJP’s insistence that the Prime Minister and his aides dropped the idea of asking the Sangharsh Samiti to suspend the agitation. BJP spokesman further informed that national president Rajnath Singh told that the BJP would organize demonstrations all over the country outside the Raj Bhawans on August 11, 12 and 13 and present memoranda to Governors in order to make the authorities in New Delhi concede forthwith the demands as being articulated by SAYSS. |
