BJP's 3-day agitation from Aug 11
8/8/2008 12:03:58 AM
New Delhi | Aug 7

Despite government's appeal, BJP's core committee on Thursday decided to go ahead with a three-day agitation on the Amarnath land transfer issue beginning on August 11.
BJP leaders had already made it clear that they would settle for nothing less than re-allotment of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.
Centre's frail attempt to broker peace over the Amarnath land-for-pilgrim issue had hit a stone with PDP and National Conference opposing BJP's demand for restoration of land and recall of governor N N Vohra.
Governor N N Vohra had appointed a four- member committee on Wednesday night to hold talks with Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS), spearheading the agitation in Jammu.
The announcement of the committee came minutes after the all-party meeting convened in the National Capital by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ended where political parties made a joint appeal to agitators for suspending the agitation so that the dialogue process could begin.
The committee comprising former J&K Chief Secretary S S Bloeria, vice-chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo, retired judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice G D Sharma and Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board B B Vyas would make a fresh approach to the agitating group for ending the stalemate that has affected normal life in Jammu region.
However, the Samiti had spurned the offer of Governor for direct talks and visit to the camp site.
The situation in Jammu and Srinagar is getting from bad to worse with Kashmiri traders on Wednesday threatening to snap all trade ties with their counterparts in Jammu. The violence is continuing unabated in various parts of Jammu and Srinagar.
On Wednesday, eight out of the ten members of the Amarnath Shrine Board resigned to help in reconstitution of the Board.
