A man died of cardiac arrest following a grenade attack by militants on a security patrol in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir today, official sources said.
A grenade was hurled by ultras in an abortive attempt to target a Border Security Force (BSF) patrol at main market in Bandipora district, 55 kms from here, around 9.30 am, the sources said.
Although no one was hurt in the grenade attack as the device fell short and exploded near roadside, a civilian identified as Ali Mohammad Khan (65), who was passing through the market, fainted on hearing the deafening sound of the explosion, they said.
Khan, a resident of Takiya-Bandipora, was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased had suffered a heart attack on hearing the sound of the blast, they said.
The area has been cordoned off by police with the help of security forces and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants, they added.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
