Jammu | August 8

In order to create a congenial atmosphere for the talks between the members of the All Party delegation and the Sangarsh Samiti there was need for releasing all arrested persons and for sanctioning exgratia relief to the tune of Rs.five to 10 lakhs to those killed in police firing in recent days. This was stated by the Panthers Party General secretary and spokesman,Harsh Dev Singh.
He today said "the Government should lift curfew restrictions so that members of the All Party delegation arriving in Jammu tomorrow could talk to various sections of people for finding a solution to the land dispute."He has also demanded release of all those who languish in jails for the crime of having agitated against the revocation of the land order.
He said "the ongoing agitation in Jammu has become a peoples movement and the centre should directly take a decision on the issue."He said there was no harm if the All Party delegation would visit the state for the purpose of defusing the crisis but the "exercise may not be fruitful unless a congenial environment was created in the region."Harsh Dev Singh said that the main demand of the people in the Jammu region was to see land restored to the Shrine Board and "if the All Party delegation members try to deviate from the core issue the talks may not succeed."
Meanhile, senior Congress leaders in Jammu have extended their support to the ongoing movement. These leaders, including Raman Bhalla,Yogesh Sawhney,Gulchain Singh Charak,Dr Manohar Lal,two MPs,Lal Singh,Madan Lal,besides Sham Sharma have supported the cause of the agitators. These congressmen,as part of the damage control exercise, have not hesitated in supporting the demand for the restoration of land to the Shrine Board.Even the Chief of the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti,Leela Karan, has conveyed to the central Government that talks "can be held only on the restoration of land to the shrine Board."In the meantime, the Samiti has appealed to people to donate liberally for helping the bereaved families whose kith and kin were killed in police firing. The Samiti plans to initiate measures for providing financial assistance to those injured in police action.
