| Measures for restoration of Mubarak Mandi reviewed | | Charak for early starting of renovation work | | JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 07 - Measures for the maintenance of Mubarak Mandi complex were discussed in a meeting convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Roads and Buildings Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak here this morning. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr. Pramod Jain, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Mr. Hirdesh Kumar Singh, IGP Jammu, Mr. S. P. Vaid, Chief Engineer R&B Mr. M. M. Sharma, Director Tourism, Director Archeology, Joint Director Information, Mr. S. K. Sharma, Xen R&B and other senior officers were present in the meeting. It was apprised that Rs. 3 crore alloted for restoration work of the historical complex would be utilized for repair and renovation of High Court Complex, terraces, retaining wall and Grey hall. The money would also be spent on reconstruction of the wall that collapsed recently due to heavy rains. Emphasizing on preserving the heritage building, Mr. Charak said that Mubarak Mandi complex depicts the Dogra culture and heritage, which has to be saved from any further deterioration. He said the government is making every possible effort to preserve the complex for which funds have also been released on priority. It was apprised that about 6 lakh files have been retrieved from the complex, which are being chemically treated to avoid any damage. Regarding the face lifting of Raghunath Bazar area, the Minister said that elaborate arrangements have to be made for beautification of the historical place. The Xen PWD was asked to initiate measures for removing encroachments. On the widening of Gurudwara Sunder Singh road, the Minister asked the Divisional Commissioner to appoint an officer to identify encroachments and put in accelerated efforts to remove these.
