| Shiv Sena asks Congressmen to quit and join stir in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 9
Chief of the state unit of the Shiv Sena(BT)Ashok Gupta, today said that the issue of recall of Governor,N.N.Vohra,had not figured during the All Party meeting held in Delhi on August 6.He said neither the demand for the recall of the Governor nor favouring his continuance figured during the meeting and as such it was surprising that the External Affairs Minister,Pranabh Mukherjee, announced after the meeting that Vohra would not be recalled. Gupta said that such statements usually create hurdles in the process of crisis defusion. He said that several political leaders, especially those from the south, had no idea about the land row issue. They had been fed with the reports that the BJP,Shiv Sena or the VHP were demanding land at Baltal.Asok Gupta climed that he had succeeded in explaining to the political leaders about the exact position. He said that he had told politicl leaders including the Prime Miniser that the valley centric political leaders had created the problem when the piece of land was diverted to the Shrine Board for two months only. The Shiv Sena leader said such misgivings about the agitation needed to be cleared and it could have been done had the Government created a congenial atmosphere for the dialogue between the Sangarsh Samiti and the All Party delegation members who reached Jammu today. He said it was futile for the Samiti to hold talks when the entire city was under seige of the Army.Asked whether the All Party delegation was supposed to talk to a cross section of people Gupta said how could it be possible when people had not been allowed to cross the barbed wire barriers set up on the mouth of every lane and bylane in the city. Ashok Gupta wanted a change in the mindset of the centre so that it could initiate measures for resolving the crisis in Jammu. He said it was unfortunate that the cenre was influenced by the propaganda launched in the Kashmir valley. In this connection he referred to the slogan of economic blockade on Kashmir raised in the valley by politicl leaders. He said tranship, ment of goods was affected on the highway and it was wrong that trucks carrying consumer items were singled out for attack by the protesters. He said trucks carrying goods for Jammu were also halted. He said that during the last four days more than 1200 trucks loaded with various essential items had reached Srinagar and still the clamour continued over economic blockade. He urged the congress leaders and workers to quit their organisation and join the stir because mere statements were not going to save their skin. |
