Two persons including an aged woman were washed away in fresh flash floods after the heavy rainfall that lashed entire tehsil Mendhar since last night. Sources informed that an unidentified person of Punjab presently residing at Mankote Chajjla and an aged woman identified as Medha Begum, 65, wife of Nazir Hussain of Salwa in tehsil Mendhar were washed away in flash floods during the last 24 hours. Sources further informed that the daughter of Medha Begum identified as Parveena Akhtar wife of Kafyat Hussain of Salwa, who also got trapped in violent water currents in river Salwa, was rescued by local residents and police. "The body of unidentified person was not recovered as yet while the residents of Salwa with the assistance of local police recovered the body of Medha Begum," maintained sources. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mendhar Sanjay Singh Rana told that a police team has been rushed to the spot and started its operation to recover the body of unidentified person. "It has been raining in the entire tehsil Mendhar since last night. People have been facing several problems as water entered into their houses. A large portion of land in Mohra, Ari, Harni, Chajjla and Mankote areas also got washed away in flash floods. Some cattle were also washed away in the flash water currents," sources informed. |
