Asserting no new commission or committee could satisfy the urges of Jammu people except the restoration of status quo ante as it stood on July 1 last, Harshdev Singh chief spokesperson of JKNPP has said that enraged and deeply hurt people of Jammu region could be pacified only if the land in question was diverted to the SASB and steps initiated for ending the age old discrimination against Jammu region as a whole.
Justifying his party’s decision to boycott today’s meeting with the central delegation in view of the highly objectionable constitution of the said team; Harshdev said that inclusion of NC and PDP members in the central delegation has amply demonstrated callous and insensitive attitude of the Union Government towards the people of Jammu. ‘No talks could be held in the state of seize when curfew had been clamped in the entire area, and a state of undeclared emergency existed with the streets of Jammu having been converted into battle field, civil and fundamental rights suppressed, bullets being showered on people holding National Flags and on those shouting slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, he observed.
Referring to the resignation of the existing members of the SASB, paving way for reconstitution of the board, he said the SASB should be reconstituted having all members of the Hindus of repute and permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. He said constitution of the Board shall be followed by diversion of land in favour of the said Board in conformity with the earlier proposal of the Board for use of the land for raising temporary shelters for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine.
Strongly flaying the fundamentalist and separatist organizations of Kashmir for unleashing highly mischievous and malicious propaganda so as to divide the people of Jammu in the name of religion to weaken the present movement, JKNPP leader said that people of Jammu region were wise enough to see through the game plan of such division and anti national forces and asserted that they would never fall prey to their nefarious designs.
Saying that people of Jammu were completely united and would always up-hold their secular traditions even in the face of greatest of provocations, Harshdev maintained that the ongoing movement has transcended the barriers of caste, creed and religion and achieved universal acceptability with the support of all religious dominations.
Maintaining that the on going agitation has taken the shape of a mass movement, he said the writing on the wall was very clear that Kashmiri rulers could no longer be allowed to decide the fate or shape of the destinies of the awakened people of Jammu region. He said the present agitation was an uprising against the centuries old suppression and would continue till the aspirations of the people of the region were fulfilled.
The JKNPP leader demanded immediate lifting of curfew, grant of Rs. 10 lakh exgratia to the next of kins of those killed in the course of agitation, Rs two lakhs to those injured , removal of barricades from all over for free and uninterrupted movement of people so that a congenial atmosphere was created for a dialogue. |
