Demands amendment in SASB Act

Jammu | Aug 9

Prof Bhim Singh Chairman JKNPP, who is presently on fast unto death and undergoing treatment in GMC Hospital here, has urged the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, currently in the winter capital, to ensure two amendments in the Shrine Board Act to win back the confidence of the people of the State with particular reference to the Jammu Province. The amendments relate to section 4 of the Act making it mandatory that all the Members of the Shrine Board are Permanent Residents of Jammu and Kashmir State and the Government Order of July 1st 2008 should be amended so as to divert the land in question to Shri Amar Nath Ji Shrine Board without changing the status of the proprietary right with the “Forest Department.”
In a letter addressed to the Union Home Minister, copy of which was released to the press here today, Bhim Singh has sought a firm commitment from the Government to end the age old discrimination against Jammu Region in all spheres of life including equitable share in development, allocation of funds, employment opportunities, and distribution of Assembly and Parliamentary seats.
‘I strongly plead you to lift curfew from entire Jammu Province immediately, release all arrested persons unconditionally, arrested in connection with the present turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir, besides granting compensation to the families of the dead and medical care for the injured persons’, the letter adds.
The JKNPP leader in his letter demanded prosecution of former Congress Ministers headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad for passing the law on July 1st 2008 canceling the allotment of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board which created the present fire, deaths and destruction in Jammu region.
He said that the Panthers Party has decided to boycott the delegation from Delhi with tainted and criminal Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi and Prof. Soz along with NC PDP leaders who are responsible for the present situation in Jammu Province. ‘There is no need for any negotiation because my formula as mentioned above is acceptable to the people of the Valley as well as to the people of Jammu. The people of J&K shall not accept anything short of this. The people are aware that the J&K Congress leaders are interested to replace N. N. Vohra by a Congress loyalist Governor so that Congress could be rehabilitated in J&K and rig forth coming Assembly elections, the letter further says.
