The turmoil in Jammu is 40-day old baby.The baby has shown its teeth which can bite hard.The shutdown continues so are the curfew restrictions.During the last one week relaxation in curfew restrictions gave some relief to people who could buy essential commodities,including half rotten vegetables and fruitBut the curfew restrictions were strictly enforced by the troops who kept on telling people to stay indoors.They even pleaded for cooperation from the people of Jammu.Streets wore a deserted look.The curfew restrictions were strictly enforced because of the visit of the 18-member All Party delegation to the state's winter capital for holding talks with the Sangarsh Samiti leaders in the just spruced Geeta Bhawan.The Government wanted to ensure safe travel from the Jammu airport to the Geeta Bhawan.So do not blame the members of the All Party delegation if they report to the Prime Minister that there were no agitation,no violation of curfew restrictions.No surprise if the leaders inform the Prime Minister that it is total peace in Jammu and it is media projection on violence.The members should have been allowed a chance to experience the level of peoples' anger.They should have been given an opportunity to gauge the degree of hurt in the sentiments of people.
.In this depressing scenario a number of intellectuals were surprised as well as pleased with the behaviour of militants operating in the state.Why ? They say during the turmoil in Kashmir and then in Jammu these guntoting youths did not strike.They kept on watching the events with amusement.They were seen resting and relaxing because what they could not achieve all these years was being achieved by the separatists and even mainstream political leaders who have started demaning reopening of the Jehlum valley road.They have even decided not to oppose bifurcation of the state.At least for a change militants need to be praised for having remained on the sidelines.Had they wished they could have created bigger problems for people and the Government agencies.Reports said that they had strict instruction from their patron across the border to lie low and allow people break their heads and get killed in police firing.Let people suffer police lathis and get injured in tear smoke.
So far so good.But the Government agencies have acted like the directors of TV serials and films.These TV serials and series of films have given an idea to terrorists and criminals in executing their plans.These serials and films continue to guide crimnals and mlitants in carrying out their nefarious designs.No surprise some crimiknals and militants have followed the pattern that the directors of these films and serials had shown on the big and small screens.Till Thursday Government agencies had not opened their mouth on the plans and activities of militants.However,all of a sudden senior Army functionaries,basing on the inputs of intelligence agencies,said on Saturday that terrorists could take advantage of this volatile situation the result of big protest demonstration held by people.The Army functionaries said that columns of troops had to be diverted from the Indo-Pak border for tackling internal turmoil.This is enough indication for terrorists to get ready for the strike.It also provides a hint to agencies across the border that since the deployment of the troops on the LOC has been thinned they can explore the possibility of pushing into Jammu and Kashmir as many groups of militants as is possible.
Tis way the Army functionaries have acted like film directors and those editing TVserials who guide,unwittingly and unknowingly,criminals and terrorists what strategy they had to adopt while carrying out acts of crime.The Army functionaries actually wanted to persuade people to maintain calm.It is good approach but they should not have disclosed that they had to shift columns of troops from the border for tackling internal security. |
