Dilawar for immediate dewatering of floodwater from marooned areas

ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 07 – Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation, Flood Control and Horticulture Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir has directed for immediate dewatering of floodwater from various flooded areas of the valley, particularly Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Srinagar city and Ganderbal.
The Minister was addressing a high level officers meeting here today, convened to assess the damages caused to the property and also to review the arrangements made by state government in respect of supply of essentials, restoration of power supply, provisions made for providing safe drinking water, adequate medicare facilities, supply of LPG and K. Oil to the affected families.
The Minister directed the Fire Services and UEED authorities to put in service more dewatering pumps to de-water the areas affected by recent floods.
Reviewing the damage caused to culverts, bridges and link roads, the Minister directed R&B authorities to take immediate steps for repair of the same so that the traffic on these roads is restored.
Mr. Mir asked health department to work round the clock for providing healthcare facilities to the affected families to avoid out break of water borne diseases in these areas. The Minister was informed that 10 lakh Chlorine Tablets are being distributed among the flood families besides other medicare facilities.
The Minister also directed Power Development department to provide generator sets, streetlights and other lighting arrangements to flood affected areas, where main electricity supply has been snapped in view of threat to life and property.
Responding to the demand of releasing additional foodgrains and other essentials by several Deputy Commissioners and other senior officers of various departments, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad said that most deserving families should be given foodgrains even free of cost to save them from starvation.
Secretary, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr. Khalid Habib assured the Minister that the sufficent stocks of all the essentials like rice, atta, k.oil and LPG are available in godowns of the valley and necessary steps are being taken to reach to the needy and flood affected families.
Director, Fire Services and Chief Engineer, UEED also assured the meeting of full cooperation in respect of providing dewatering pumps to the affected areas. These areas include Sonar Khul, Parimpora, Zampakadal, Idgah, Qamarwari, Bemina Housing Colony, Padshahi Bagh, Hamdania Colony, Masjid-Unjam, Gousia Colony, Habib Colony, Barzulla and Haji Bagh. Lasjan shall also be taken care of later, they added.
The meeting among others was attended by IG, Kashmir Mr. S. M. Sahai, valley DCs, Director Fire Services and Chief Engineers of all engineering wings.
