Several notables, including the Prime Minister, the Governor, the Vice-Chancellor Jammu University and CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury have appealed Prof. Bhim Singh to call off his fast unto death. Besides these personalities Shankara Acharya of Puri, Shri Shri Ravi Shanker, Mufti-e-Aazm of Kashmir Mufti Bashir-ud-Din, Rishi Kumar Koushal veteran Dogra leader, Mangat Ram Sharma former Deputy Chief Minister, B. S. Slathia President Bar Association Jammu, Chander Mohan Sharma President Praja Parishad, Dr. Taran Singh Secretary J&K Namdhari Sangat, Romesh Dutta Ex-Deputy Mayor Delhi and Chairman Nehru Brigade, H. C. Jalmeria Advocate, President Kissan Sabha, S. K. Bhatt Secretary Migrant Camp Mishriwalla Ashok Kumar Bhagat Chairman Dalit Liberation Front J&K, H.N. Jattu President All India Kashmir Pandit Conference New Delhi, S. Gurcharan Singh President Nanak Nagar Welfare Committee (Brashtachar Virodhi Abhiyan), and many others have appealed Prof. Bhim Singh to withdraw his fast unto death as his life is very precious for the society and the Nation. Prof Amitabh Mattoo has appealed Prof. Bhim Singh, whose health is rapidly deteriorating, to call off his fast unto death. In an appeal he said that Singh’s sacrifices for the country and Jammu are well known. We cannot afford to lose him at this critical juncture. It is the right time that he leads the younger generation of leaders. So, I once again appeal to Prof. Sahib to call off his fast in the larger interest of the Nation and Jammu and Kashmir in particular to work in the field to mobilize the secular and progressive forces to strengthen unity and communal harmony”. Sahil Ji Maharaj personally visited Prof. Singh at CCU in GMC Jammu and made emotional appeal to end his fast, “we need you for tomorrow also”, he said. An emergency meeting held by Kashmir Panthers Party Council in Srinagar strongly appealed Prof. Singh to end his fast as the people of Kashmir Valley, particularly the youth need him the most to defend their fundamental right, life and liberty. The meeting which was presided over by Farooq Ahmed Dar General Secretary was attended by all the District Presidents. Similar meetings were held in Poonch, Rajouri, Kishwar, Doda, Baderwah, Billawar, Kahua and Samba Districts where hundreds of Panthers Party workers prayed for long life of the party Supremo and appealed to him to call off his fast and lead the people of Jammu province to victory. The Panthers Trade Union under the Chairmanship for S. Daljeet Singh also made a similar appeal. Toofan Singh, President Bihar Panthers Party at a meeting has expressed support and solidarity with Prof. Singh and appealed him to end his fast. In Delhi also over 500 party workers led by Sanjay Sachdeva Delhi Pardesh Panthers Party President have also started solidarity fast at Janter Manter which entered the seventh day today. In Chanuta, ancestral village of Prof. Bhim Singh, thousands of people from the surrounding areas under the Chairmanship of Sarpanch Jagan Singh organized a mass prayer for the long life of Panthers Supremo and expressed their solidarity with his mission for the return of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. |
