| No middle path: Samiti | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 10
Even as the high level delegation headed by the Home Minister Shivraj Patil failed to resolve the volatile situation in Jammu, the Shri Amarnath Snagharsh Samiti, the multiparty conglomerate spearheading the agitation, today made it amply clear that no other solution than the one sought by it will help break the deadlock. The SAYSS said that any proposal made by the government to resolve the controversy should be at par with the demands of the Samiti. SASS convener Leela Karan Sharma while expressing ignorance of any new proposal by the government on the issue said, "If there is such a proposal at par with our demands, we will agree when it comes to us in writing." Sharma, who was reacting to a reporter's statement that the government was likely to formulate a new proposal by cancelling earlier orders on land transfer as null and void, said, "I have no information on this and I will comment only after getting such a proposal in writing. "However, if such an order is at par with our demands, we will agree to it but only after it reaches to us in writing." On the High Court's interim order allowing use of land for construction of pre-fabricated structures in Baltal area, Sharma said it is only an interim order but the government's revoked order for cancellation of use of 100 acres of land in that area by the board is a permanent order. To another query about the "threat" given by some fruit traders in Valley to sell their goods in Muzaffarabad (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir), he alleged that "they are doing so much of blackmail on this issue". "They will neither act nor go there. Otherwise, Muzaffarabad is also our area and if they are happy to go there let them go," he said. |
