Patil’s eyewash team draws blank

Without making any headway to resolve the ongoing impasse on Shri Amarnath Shrine land transfer controversy, the Prime Minister’s 18-member all party delegation today made a fervent appeal to all concerned people for exercising restraint.
On second leg of its two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, today met leaders of various political parties here and obtained their views on resolving the onging land issue.
The delegation led by the Union Minister for Home Mr. Shivraj Patil, had a free and frank discussion with the state based leaders of various political parties who expressed their views on the issue. The participating political parties included National Conference, Indian National Congress, People’s Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Forum, Bhartiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Lok Jan Shakti Party, Janata Dal (U) and CPI(M).
Speaking on the occasion, Shivraj Patil said that the All Parties Delegation had come here to discuss with political parties the current situation in the state and how to address it in an amicable way. He said points made during the meeting include law and order situation, smooth flow of traffic on National Highway, transportation of fruit from the valley, need to maintain communal harmony and smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra.
Patil said that concrete suggestions were made by the participating leaders which would be discussed with the leaders of the political parties in New Delhi and the State and the Central Governments. He said the law and order would be maintained at all costs and the Government will not sherik its responsibilities. He said whatever is required to maintain law and order would be done. He said the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is through and police and army had been deployed to ensure free flow of load carriers and fuel tankers.
The Minister said that the efforts of the Government is to ensure that the fruit growers do not suffer. He said they should take their fruit to different markets in the country and would be provided adequate security. He said the Government would provide compensation to the next of kin of those who were killed during the recent violence following the land row. He asked the fruit growers not to take any measure that was against the interests of the State and the country.
Patil said that the State Government has been asked to ensure organised supply of medicines and, if necessary, airlift these from outside the State. He said extra care would be taken that there is no problem on this account to general public. He said the Prime Minister during the All Parties meeting held at the Union Capital recently, made it clear that Amarnath Yatris would be provided all the facilities needed to perform the pilgrimage smoothly and without any difficulty. He said the land issue has to be resolved in a manner as would be acceptable to people both in Kashmir and Jammu. He said he was happy to see a unanimous view emerging on the importance of maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood in the State. He said at no cost the atmosphere of amity would be allowed to be disturbed.
The meeting, among others, was attended by the Governor Mr. N. N. Vohra, Union Ministers, Mr. Raguvanash Prasad Singh, Mr. Saif-ud-Din Soz and Minster of State in PM’s Office Mr. Prathvi Raj Chouhan, Mr. Arun Jailty (BJP), Mr. Amar Singh (Smajwadi Party), Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad (Congress), Dr. Farooq Abdullah (NC), Ms. Mehbooba Mufti (PDP), Mr. Sitaram Yechuri (CPIM), Mr. D. Raja (CPI), Mrs. Mohsina Kidwai (Congress), Mr. Ram Chander Paswan (LJSP), Mr. Naresh Gujraj (SDA), Dr. Akhtar Hussain Rizvi (NCP) and Mr. K. C. Tyagi (JDU).
The Advisor to Governor, Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary Home, Mr. Anil Goswami, GoC, XV Crops, Lt. Gen. Mukesh Sabarwal, DGP, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, DGP CRPF, Special Secretary (IS) Union Government, Mr. M. L. Kumawat and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Masaud Samoon also attend the meeting.
Later, a presentation was made on the situation in Kashmir following the land diversion issue. Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Masaud Samoon and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Mr. S. M. Sahai briefed the All Parties Delegation about the situation on law and order and essential supplies. They also gave details of measures taken by the administration to ensure movement of essential supplies and fresh fruit to and from the Valley.
