| Sangarsh Samiti asserted Jammu's relevance | | | | If the three Kashmiri leaders were made to eat humble pie and face discomfort, to be little more forthright, humiliation, by the Home Minister Shivraj Patil dropping them from the Central delegation holding talks with Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti to meet the latter's demand in this regard, the fault laid in the composition of the delegation. The Inclusion of these leaders from Kashmir tantamounted to adding insult to the injury on the people of Jammu, who are agitating against the injustices done with them on the behest of these leaders and their parties. Farooq Abdullah, his party National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti and her PDP were directly responsible for creating the present chaotic situation which culminated into surrender before the blackmail of the secessionists in the matter of land transfer to SASB, while the J&K Pradesh Congress headed by Saif-ud-Din Soz, along with the Governor N N Vohra surrendered before the blackmail and pressure mounted on by the anti national religious fanatics in Kashmir. Their inclusion in the delegation, which was claimed to have been sent by the Prime Minister to Jammu to assuage the hurt sentiments of the people here and to find out a solution of the impasse, was totally irrational and illogical, since they were the party to inflict injury on the psyche of Jammu people to which the present agitation is giving its outlet. In fact the Sangarsh Samiti should have even set the condition for Governor N N Vohra to be also kept out of their meeting with the Union Home Minister and other members of the delegation, since he was also party to hurting the sentiments of the Jammu people by disregarding their expressed opposition to rescinding the earlier government decision about allotment of land to SASB. It was magnanimity on the part of Sangarsh Samiti to not put the constitution head of the state into a situation of humiliation, notwithstanding one of their demands being the recall of Governor N N Vohra and his replacement by some other competent person as the Governor of the state. Farooq Abdullah's initial reluctance to leave the meeting and his outburst calling the agitators as communally motivated and Mehbooba Mufti's threatening remarks that she would see how matter could be sorted without the involvement of Kashmiri leaders, further justified and vindicated the stand of the Sangarsh Samiti, insisting on the dropping of Kashmiri leaders from the meeting, before they could participate in it. The Kashmiri leaders have been used to browbeating and intimidating the Jammu people by using blackmail tactics like their succeeding from India in case the people of Jammu assert for their rights and do not submit before their separatists agenda. For last 60 years this has been the trend in the national politics, with most of the all India parties having their comparatively stronger base in Jammu and having hardly any presence in Kashmir nominating Kashmiri politicians as heads of their state units. Similarly the powers that have been in the Centre have been always entering into dialogues with Kashmiri leaders only, entering into accords with them, excluding the voice of Jammu all together. But the present agitation is bound to change this trend, with the Jammu leaders of all the parties asserting for their regional identity and pledging to no more accept the hegemony of Kashmiri leaders. In this way whatever happened yesterday was a welcome development, since it has shown the Kashmiri leaders their place and is believed to be a trend setter for future political equations between Jammu and Kashmir, with Jammu asserting its due place and identity. |
