| Nearly 660 trucks cross Lakhanpur daily: Rajendra | | Smooth traffic on the NH | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 11
Stating that the State Police supported by the Army is keeping hawk’s eye at all vulnerable points on the National Highway (NH) for ensuring smooth flow of vehicles, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, K. Rajendra Kumar said that all the vehicles carrying essential commodities (import and export) are smoothly moving on the National Highway from the Lakhanpur to the Banihal. He said that on an average approximately 660 trucks carrying essential items crossed Lakhanpur daily during the last week. Giving details Rajendra said that as many as 7,640 trucks crossed the Lakhanpur from July 30 to August 11, 2008. He said 441 trucks carrying both import and export items crossed Lakhanpur today itself, including 100 trucks of fruit, 32 trucks of vegetables and 106 trucks carrying other items were sent out side the state. Revealing further, he said that since July 30 to till date, 676 trucks of fruit, 67 trucks of vegetables and 3046 trucks carrying other items crossed Lakhanpur to export their commodities in the other states. Likewise 3829 trucks laden with imported essential commodities reached state since July 30 to August 11, 2008, he added. IGP said that police personnel have been given strict instructions to maintain maximum restrain while dealing with the ongoing sensitive issue. He said who so-ever found violating his instructions would have to face the brunt of law. He appreciated the co-operation extended by the general public for smooth flow of traffic on the National Highway and appealed them to remain vigilant against the mischief mongers. He asked them not to disrupt the functioning of ATM’s as people are facing financial crunch due to non-functioning of banks. |
