| Bridge on Srinagar- Leh highway washes away in cloud burst | | | Early Times Reporter Leh | Aug 11
The Ulley- Tokpo Bridge on Srinagar-Leh highway washed away during the intervening night of Aug 9-10 following a cloud burst in Yangthang Phoo besides damaging road communication to Rizong and Chomoling. The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Chhering Dorje rushed to the affected site yesterday and took stock of the situation. He directed the Executive Councilor Food and Supplies Stanzin Delik, Executive Councilor, Minority Affairs Mohd Khan, Councillor, Temisgam Dorje Namgail and Councilor Lamayuroo Gonboo and Deputy Commissioner, A. K. Sahu to inspect the flood affected sites of Yangthang, Ulley, Rizong, Chomoling and Uley Tokpo. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Khaltsi Brakboo along with a team of officers rushed to Ullay-tokpo for immediate assistance. He said the Army is helping in removing silt from the school at Rizong, in addition to the arrangements made by the civil administration. He said that Army has provided food for two days to the people of Rizong. He said as a precautionary measure, the inhabitants of Chomos have been shifted to Rizong Gonpa. For providing water supply tanker service has been put into operation besides providing rations and medical facility to the stranded passenger. He said the Lardo-Gera road has been restored for the convenience of the stranded passengers. |
