Though a consensus still eluded on the uncompromising demand putforth by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) to end the ongoing agitation in Jammu, the Prime Minister’s all party delegation headed by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil is likely announce its decision on Tuesday. The 18-member delegation after its visit and deliberations in Jammu and Srinagar today had a meeting in New Delhi. The high level group will have another round of meeting tomorrow morning in New Delhi which will be chaired by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to arrive at a decision. Reports reaching here from the Union Capital said that leaders of the all party delegation who visited Jammu and Srinagar to find a solution to the Amarnath land row on Monday have so far failed to arrive at a consensus to resolve the vexed issue and will meet again tomorrow. After a 90-minute meeting, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the meeting was inconclusive. "We met today and the talks were inconclusive. We will meet tomorrow again," he said. Tomorrow's resumed talks will be held a day ahead of all party meet, the second such exercise in a week, to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In today's meeting, the delegation members made various suggestions to resolve the dispute but opposition BJP, which was represented by Arun Jaitley, stressed on implementing the order of division bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. As per the orders, the land will be handed over to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for a period of two months of yatra when pre-fabricated structures can be erected. However, as per the order, the ownership of the land will remain unchanged. The delegation had a two-day visit to the state where it held talks with Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS), spearheading the over month-long agitation in Jammu, besides holding parleys with leaders from Kashmir valley. Summing up the visit, Patil said he was hopeful of a peaceful solution to the problem. The Home Minister spoke to Governor N N Vohra and the state police chief to take stock of the situation. oday's meeting was attended among others by Union Ministers Raghuvansh Prasad, Saif-ud-din Soz and Prithviraj Chavan, former state chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad, Amar Singh and Sitaram Yechury. Meanwhile, te Congress today accused the BJP of undermining the visit of the all-party delegation to Jammu and Kashmir by making "irresponsible statements" in Jammu on the economic blockade of the Kashmir valley. "To say that the economic blockade is not taking place is far from truth ... The channels have shown it ... The RSS, VHP and the Bajrang Dal tried to block the highway to J&K in Punjab also," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi Tewari was reacting to the statement of senior BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta in Jammu today in which he accused separatist groups of misleading people on the Amarnath land row and said that there was no blockade on Jammu-Srinagar national highway as claimed by these outfits.
The spokesman said the BJP leaders did not even wait for the meeting with the Prime Minister to apprise him of the outcome of the all-party delegation's visit to Jammu and Srinagar before making such statements. Tewari said the PM started a process of dialogue by constituting the all-party delegation to cool down tempers. “Such a statement is akin to stoking the fire," he added. Asked about the involvement of Congress MPs and MLAs in the agitation in Jammu, Tewari claimed that none of them are involved. "No MP or MLA from the Congress in involved ... If it is found that someone is involved, party would take appropriate action," he said. |
