| Maintain peace in J&K: Muslim panel | | | New Delhi | Aug 12
A prominent Muslim organisation on Tuesday appealed to all concerned in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and harmony in the wake of violent protests over the Amarnath land transfer issue, saying maintaining unity among communities is "extremely important". Leaders of Markazi Jamiat Ehle Hadees Hind said there was a conspiracy to disturb the unity and harmony in the state and people should not be allowed to fall into the trap. "There is a conspiracy to disturb the unity among the communities in the state and a careful approach is needed to restore peace and unity there," Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mahadi Salfi, Secretary General of the organisation, said. Asked what could be possible solution to the issue, he only said a balanced approach should be initiated. "The situation is sensitive and a balanced approach is needed to solve it," he told reporters here.Salfi also expressed concern over the tendency to target a particular community after any incident of terror attack. "The irony is that whenever terrorist strikes take place, the needle of suspicion is pointed to persons and organisations of a particular community. They are harassed, detained and interrogated even before investigation," he said. The religious body also appealed to the Centre to constitute a judicial commission headed by a retired Supreme Court or High Court Chief Justice to investigate into all such cases in which innocent persons were harassed in the name of curbing terrorism. Zafarul-Islam Khan, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, said a list comprising names of those who were killed in false encounters or wrongly implicated on terror charges is being prepared. Markazi Jamiat Ehle Hadees Hind will organise an all India conference in October to discuss various aspects of human rights in Islam. |
