Khoda, Goswami brief media about day's incidents

Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda has said that on the second consecutive day today, there were some incidents in the valley during which different forces had to take action leading to the loss of some precious lives and injuries to some others.
Addressing a Press Conference here this evening, the DGP said that following the yesterday's incident, there were reports as well as assessment that people would come out in large numbers in Srinagar in view of which curfew was imposed as precautionary measure. He said forces were ordered to strictly impose curfew and exercise maximum restraint in case of curfew violations. He said today, so far reports of 33 processions had been received from various places. He said the size of processions varied from small to very big. He said that at maximum places the situation was controlled. He said the burial ceremony of Sheikh Abdul Aziz passed off peacefully, saying that people showed maturity and dispersed peacefully.
Giving details of causalities, Khoda said that three persons were killed in Bandipora in confrontation with security forces. He said another unfortunate incident happened in Lasjan resulting in the death of three persons. He said in all 11 persons were killed today at different places in the valley. He said the two persons injured in yesterday's incidents also succumbed today, taking the death toll in two days to 17.
The DGP said that situation in Kishtwar was fully under control and curfew totally in force. He said additional forces were rushed and army deployed in the area. He said Divisional Commissioner and IGP, Jammu have also reached there to monitor the situation. He said incidents of violence between two communities took place in the town causing some damage. He said 2 persons were killed in firing incidents there.
The DGP said that in today's incident, 192 Police and other security forces were injured including two SDPO's and one SHO. He said most of the injured were admitted in the hospital while one SDPO was being airlifted to Delhi for treatment. He said 2 vehicles of Police and security forces, 1 SRTC vehicle were torched while 33 SRTC vehicles were damaged by agitators today.
Adding to it he said that adequate arrangements have been taken to ensure smooth movement of load carriers for carrying fruit and other essential supplies on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. He said the Highway is through. He said mobile patrols, ROPs and taking the fleet of trucks under convoy were some of the measures taken by the government to instill confidence among the truck drivers and people in large.
On this occasion, the Principal Secretary, Home, Anil Goswami said that the movement of vehicles on National Highway was affected today due to imposition of curfew. He said government has provided full protection to truck drivers for plying on the National Highway. He said on the request of Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, the Government of India has ordered building up of buffer stocks of petroleum products in the valley for 15 days. He said petroleum stocks in the valley normally are for 7 days. He appealed the media to help the administration in restoring peace, saying that 17 precious lives were lost in the valley in 2 days devastating as many families.
