Taking advantage of the internal turbulence in different parts of state, the militant cadres have become active to unleash sabotage thus giving a tough job to the security forces.
While many militancy related incidents have been reported from different parts of region, the security forces are on the toes after reports suggested that two militants were spotted in Akhnoor area. Police and security forces are searching the areas.
Reports coming from other parts of the region said a group of militants hurled a grenade and opened fire at the post in Looru area of Banihal tehsil in Ramban late last night.
The security forces deployed at the post retaliated resulting in exchange of fire for over half an hour, they said adding that the militants later escaped.
Another report said that the Border Security Force today shot dead a Pakistani infiltrator along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district. Alert BSF troops observed movement along the international border at a post in Chilyari belt of Samba at around 4:40 am, sources said.
The infiltrator was negotiating the border fence when troops challenged him, they said adding that he tried to escape towards the Pakistan side. Security forces opened fire and he died on the spot. His body was recovered; they said adding that further details are awaited.
Search operation on war footing was initiated by the army and SOG in the villages Palgada and Dargah under the jurisdiction of Akhnoor police station when two militants were seen by the residents of the villages here today. People of the area saw two persons with arms and ammunition when they were taking their cattle grazing. Puran a Sadhu in his Police statement said that he was picking up the twigs for hawana when he saw two persons with weapons. On having information 6 Raj Rifles and SOG started joint search operation in the forests of the areas which is still going on.Earlier people of Mundh also spotted some militants in the area. People of the villages Pargwal, Chowki Chora, Pouni, Balsora etc have noticed that the numbering of their cattle is decreasing day by day. They alleged that the animals are becoming the food of the militants reveals the fact that some militants are active in the villages of Akhnoor. Spotting militants in the Akhnoor area that too when the independence day reaching nearer points towards some untoward incident in the Akhnoor area in general and Jammu in particular.
Meanwhile, a Lashker-e-Tayiba terrorist surrendered before security forces in Doda district.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Bhaderwah area of Doda district on Monday night, official sources said. The terrorist, Rasheed Ahmed, surrendered during the operation and has been sent for interrogation.
