| BAJ extends strike till August 20 | | ‘Condemn attacks on minorities in Kishtwar’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 13
Bar Association Jammu today decided to extend its on going strike till August 20, 2008 and if the land was not restored to the Shrine Board till August 20, 2008, the strike may go ahead. In the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of its President Adv BS Salathia strongly condemned the cowardly act of the anti-social and communal elements in destroying the properties of minorities of Kishtwar and terrorizing them. BAJ termed it as grave violation of Human Rights and asked the state Governor and the Central Government to adopt strict measures to curb such attempts and deal those who tend to disturb the communal harmony in the State with iron hand to avoid such incidents in future. BAJ asked the state and the Central Government to award compensation to all the affected people whose properties have been damaged. Bar Association Jammu said that the ongoing agitation is decisive battle for the survival of a secular society and against the hegemony of Pseudo secular Kashmir Centric politics and appeasement policies of the center and as such has to be taken to its logical conclusion. The Association has asked the people of Jammu region to stand united for fighting this decisive battle of survival and also fight discriminatory treatment meted out by such elements to the people of Jammu region. BAJ said that religious intolerance of separatists and fundamentalists supported by Kashmir centric political leaders for vote politics has pushed the state to the present situation. Bar Association constituted a committee of six advocates including Sr. Advocates VA Gupta and DC Raina, Advocates RK Kotwal, RK Gupta, Rahul Pant and SK Shukla to examine the provocative speeches of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti for launching criminal prosecution against her and also demanded that Mehbooba be removed from the Lok-Sabha seat for her anti-national speeches. In the press-conference Adv Slathia referred the decisions of single judge of the state high court regarding the land and thereafter the direction of the Division Bench in an appeal filed by state through its Chief Secretary.
