| Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service suspended for tomorrow | | | Early Times Reporter

Jammu and Kashmir authorities have suspended the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service for on Thursday due to "disturbance" in the Kashmir Valley.
"The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service cannot be operated as per its schedule tomorrow due to prevailing situation in the valley," the spokesman said.
However, the fortnightly bus service will resume its operation thereafter and will ply to Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) as per its schedule on August 28, he said.
Curfew has been imposed in the Valley following killing of six persons including senior Hurriyat Leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz in police firing on Monday while they were marching towards Muzaffarabad in protest against "economic blockade" in Jammu by the Sri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS).
The SASS is leading protests demanding transfer of nearly 40 hectares of forest land to the Amarnath Shrine Board to build facilities to pilgrims.
The situation in the Valley has deteriorated and 21 people have died in the last two days in police firing and communal clashes.
The bus service between the two parts of Kashmir was started in April 2005 despite opposition by various separatist and militant organisations on the plea that "it is aimed at delaying the resolution of Kashmir issue".
Thirty members of divided families from each side of LoC take the fortnightly bus service, which will be made weekly very soon following an agreement between India and Pakistan. |
