| Panthers Party asks PM to convene NIC meet | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 13
The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene National Integration Council (NIC) meet to review the situation in the state which is witnessing violent protests over the Amarnath land transfer issue. Scores of innocent people have been killed and property worth millions of rupees destroyed. Entire state has been paralysed due to unrest caused by failure of previous Congress-PDP government in resolving the issue, JKNPP Chairman Bhim Singh said. "PM should convene an NIC meeting which is the need of the hour," he said in a statement. Singh asked Governor N N Vohra to invoke public safety act against "all communal, anti-social, anti-national and sectarian leaders" who have been inciting the violence for electoral gains. The central government should not stop protesters who wish to march towards Muzaffarabad because that area is an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir, he said. Strongly condemning the killing of people in Kashmir and Kishtwar yesterday, he demanded compensation for the families of those killed and injured. At least 12 people were dead in firing by security forces yesterday in Srinagar, Bandipora, Gandarbal and Anantnag areas. In Kishtwar town in Jammu region, two persons, including a 13-year-old boy, were killed yesterday and over 30 were injured in police firing, communal clashes and a grenade blast there. |
