EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Aug 20: The Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Sangiote village of Block Balakote in district Poonch is awaiting completion of its building for the last 10 years, with the local residents facing difficulties for want of adequate health facility in the village.
The construction for the PHC Sangiote building was started 10 years ago but it has been abandoned by the concerned agency and is still incomplete.
“The government had sanctioned the construction of PHC in the year 2009-10 to provide health care benefits to the people of village Sangiote having population of more than 3000.
The initial cost of the project was Rs 94.43lakh,” said a social activist and an Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Khan. “The Public Works Department tendered the project and it was allotted to a contractor, who built it to the level of structure and left the linter portion midway. From that day, the remaining portion of the PHC is still waiting for completion,” he added.
Meanwhile, locals of the area said that they took up the issue of incomplete PHC building before the high officials of PWD and Health Department as well as District Development Commissioner Poonch but no action has been taken till date.
“The officers give only assurances to take up the matter with higher authorities but nothing fruitful comes up,” they said.
“PHC Sangiote is a necessity for the locals. Its completion will minimize the suffering of locals who have to visit PHC Bhathadurian with travelling distance of about 10 kms for medical checkup. But the long distance sometimes proves fatal in case of any emergency,” they added.
Meanwhile, BMO Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, when contacted said that the matter has been taken up with the higher authorities for further action.
