Activists of Young Panthers led by its president and former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia today made an attempt to disrupt rail traffic at Udhampur demanding restoration of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, but were prevented by a strong posse of police and army. A large number of Young Panthers activist braving heavy rains led by Balwant Singh Mankotia arrived at Roun- Domail and tried to disrupt the rail traffic but were prevented by a heavy posse of police and army. Security forces in a bid to disperse the crowd lobbed teargas shells and resorted to lathi charge. In which more than 20 persons, including Young Panthers Balwant Singh Mankotia, were injured and later arrested by the police. Before attempting the rail traffic disruption, Mankotia addressing the gathering said that Government of India has been acting as a mute spectator to the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that more than 10 people have lost life in the ongoing agitation and those who have been responsible for hurting the sentiments of people of Jammu are now trying to instigate the people of Kashmir by indulging in highly communal and insidious speeches aimed at creating anti-India hysteria. Mankotia said that Centre is also trying to play one region against the other and in a bid to outsmart a political party. He said that for past 40 days Jammu region is agitating for restoration of land and has lost more than 10 lives and suffered loss of more than 10,000 crore of rupees but Government of India is acting as a mute spectator and adopting a criminal silence. Mankotia warned the central government against playing with the sentiments of nationalist people of Jammu and demanded immediate restoration of land to SASB. He said that people of Jammu have been hurt badly by unconstitutional acts of the state government led by Congress which is now again trying to divide the people on communal lines. These attempts would not be allowed to succeed, he asserted While appealing the people to main calm, the Young Panthers leader has asked the Government to immediately pay compensation to the people who suffered loss of life and property in the ongoing agitation, besides compensation for the farmers, businessmen and private entrepreneurs. |
