| IG CRPF removed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 14
As rolling of heads has become a part of the ongoing crises which Jammu and Kashmir is facing on Shri Amarnath Shrine land row, a top officer of a Central Paramilitary Force has been removed from his position in Kashmir following firing on protesters which saw around 20 people killed in different parts of Valley. It was an unfortunate turn of events that Jain had been recommended for this year’s President’s Medal for meritorious services. The list, reports said, carried the name of Sunil Jain for the President’s medal but the same was taken out by the Home Minister after his removal from Kashmir on recommendations of the Governor NN Vohra. Sunil Kumar Jain, Inspector General of Police, Central Reserve Police Force, Kashmir, has been immediately removed and called back at the Headquarters at New Delhi. His successor is yet to be named. Sources said that similar changes at the top level of Jammu and Kashmir Police were also expected. In an apparent damage control exercise, CRPF's Inspector General Sunil Kumar Jain was today shifted out of violence-hit Srinagar by the Centre. Jain, a 1984 batch IPS officer, was asked to "proceed on a tour to headquarters pending transfer", official sources said in New Delhi. With the CRPF coming under the scanner for its handling of the crisis in the valley, its spokesman denied the charges that the force was crossing the limits of policing. With CRPF facing criticism, its spokesman P Tripathy said there are some vested interests that want to create misunderstanding between the people and the force. Meanwhile, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Kuldeep Khoda is reported to have pulled up Inspector General of Police Kashmir range SM Sahai for claiming that CRPF opened fire on protestors in Kashmir valley. Highly placed sources in the state police headquarters confirmed that DGP Kuldeep Khoda has taken strong note of the statement of IG Kashmir and has directed him to avoid making such statements with a potential to trigger more confusion among other ranks in para military forces. |
