| Govt mulls new group to end crisis | | | New Delhi | Aug 15
Grappling with the Amarnath issue, government is said to be considering constituting a group to talk to both sides in the current row over the land transfer controversy. Sources said the group is being thought of as a 'facilitator' for a dialogue in a bid to resolve the issue sparked of by the decision to give land to Amarnath Shrine Board for the use of yatris and later taken back by the government. This move comes in the wake of the visit of the all party delegation to Jammu and Srinagar last week and the discussions held with various groups including the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti and political parties in Srinagar. Sources, who did not want to be identified, said the group could consist of eminent people who both sides could talk to. The sources said the feeling in the ruling party was that elections should be held in Jammu and Kashmir because that may act as a safety valve. Meanwhile, the Congress Committee on Kashmir had a meeting yesterday. Headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the Committee met for over two hours to review the situation. Except Arjun Singh who is unwell, all members including Karan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Saifuddin Soz as slso Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to Congress President, were present at the meeting. |
