| Kashmir unrest: 20 injured in fresh clashes in Valley | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Aug 15
When the whole state was celebrating countries Independence Day police and CRPF fire on innocent civilians despite its claims of maintaining maximum restraint while dealing with the law and order situation. Authorities today lifted curfew from all the 10 districts of the valley. The situation according to official sources remained under remained calm baring few protests in Srinagar. The situation in other parts of Kashmir also remained peaceful as people stay indoors. Tributes were paid to all those killed in police firing during the last three days. Reports from south and north Kashmir said that people after offering Friday prayers paid rich tributes to all of those who fell to the bullets of police in valley while protesting road blockade. Reports said that hundreds of people including women staged protest demonstration in Haba Kadal area of Srinagar and tried to dismantle a BSF banker which according to them has become eye sore for them for the last several years. Sources quoting eye witnesses told News Agency of Kashmir that hundreds of residents most of them youngsters came out of their homes and start protest demonstrations carrying black flags in hands and chanting pro Azadi slogans moved towards a BSF banker. Soon after the mob attack police and CRPF tried to disperse them by using force but the protesters could not be controlled. "Police fire some teargas shells to disperse the mob in which scores of the protesters received injuries" sources maintained. Police however claimed that four persons were injured in tear-smoke shelling while one got bullet injury and twelve others were injured in a stampede. The police spokesman said that the Police promised action against the erring CRPF jawans who allegedly thrashed some civilians in the locality; police authorities informed the people that the matter will be taken up with the CRPF also. After some time the protesters inserted a demand that the Bunker of the CRPF may be removed and the promised that a Police Man will be kept in the Bunker round the clock. "The angry protestors did not heed to the requests of the police officers who were monitoring the situation on the ground" the spokesman said adding that some of the protestors started ransacking the Bunker and also destroyed the fencing of the Bunker. Police reacted with tear smoke shelling and Lathicharge the mob. The mob did not disperse on this which forced police to fire in the air. In this incident one person got a stray bullet injury while as four persons were injured in Lathicharge and tear smoke shelling and twelve were injured in a stampede. However, all the injured persons are out of danger, police claimed. Meanwhile Hurriyat Mirwaiz Umer Farooq in his address after Friday prayers in down town asked the Kashmiris to unite and protest peacefully. Making a dig on the central government he demands that all the Kashmiri youth who are in different jails of the country be released. "We demand all kashmiri boys who are in different jails of the state and other parts of India be released immediately" he said adding that the struggle for opening of Muzaffarabad road will continue. The situation else where in the valley remained peaceful and no incident baring few was reported till late evening. |
