| New Delhi’s misguided mindset | | | | The Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti was right in refusing to talk to the all-party delegation if it did not exclude the Kashmiri leaders, since they were were the root cause of the problem. The so-called 'secularists' have been blaming former Governor SK Sinha for the entire Amarnath mess. Even in the all-party meeting called by the Prime Minister, a Union Minister is reported to have singled out Gen Sinha for triggering the controversy over the land allotment. However, in a recent interview Gen Sinha made it quite clear that he did not take the decision to allot land to the shrine board. In fact he could not have taken such a decision on his own. Such decisions are taken by the Cabinet and this particular decision too was taken by it, of which the PDP was a part. The mindset New Delhi since 1947, most of which of Congress-led, always took both Hindus and Muslims of Jammu for granted and pampered and appeased the separatists and the hardliners, including the Abdullahs and the Muftis. Virtually a separate Kashmiri nation within the State of India was sanctioned by Article 370 of the Constitution. Therefore, it shouldn't surprise anyone that such provisions have encouraged separatist elements to consider Kashmir as the personal property of Kashmiris. What we see today in Jammu & Kashmir is a manifestation of the same perverse 'secularism' of the Congress party. Unless and until we wake up from this psuedo-intellectual inertia, we as a nation will not be able to call ourselves truly independent. |
