Analysts in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday blamed political leaders for the current unrest in the state over the Amarnath land transfer issue.
In Jammu , a Hindu-dominated region in Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir , people have been protesting against revocation of the order transferring about 100 acres (40 hectares) of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
The intellectuals in the state appeal the people not to allow wrong preaching of the politicians affect their lives.
We are sentimental people both in Jammu and in Kashmir and by habit we tend to follow the preaching’’s of leaders even if it is wrong. This is a sad reality, Sohail Quazami, Editor-In-Chief of Taskeen newspaper, told reporter in Jammu .
Police in the Kashmir valley have killed at least 22 Muslim protesters this week, inflaming tensions. More than 500 people have been injured in clashes.
The land dispute has polarised Jammu and Kashmir , split between the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley and the Hindu-dominated Jammu region, hurting trade between the two areas.
Analysts in the state urge the people to realise their duties as citizens.
I have always seen that Hindu Muslim in the state lived with brotherhood. Today, this is done because some people do not want this peace in the state, which has persisted for the last 13 years, to continue. I would really appeal to the masses if they are educated, not literate, they should realise their duty as a common citizen that they should see to it that these political agencies do not take a toll on their lives, said Rifat Sadique, a political analyst.
The dispute began after the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered the transfer of forestland to the Trust that runs Amarnath shrine. But Muslims in Kashmir were enraged.
The government then backed down on its decision. Many Hindus, in turn were angered.
