| Bus operators demand compensation for huge losses | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 16
Regretting the government's inability to resolve Shri Amarnath Shrine land transfer controversy, the Rajouri-Poonch Bus Service Association has called upon the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir government to suitably rehabilitate the transport industry which has suffered huge loss. In a statement issued here today, the President of Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association PART Bharat Bhushan Gupta said that the passenger transport union plying on the Jammu-Poonch segment has suffered a loss of Rs 5 crores during the ongoing shut down, curfews and agitation going on for last nearly a month and half. He said that the Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association was already on a brink of collapse due to discriminatory attitude of government and insurance companies has now reached at a stage of disaster and thousands of families associated with this sector are being pushed to starvation. Gupta said that not only the drivers, cleaners and other helping staff of the passenger buses but also their owners and promoters are facing deep crisis adding that while the operating staff has lost the opportunity to earn daily meals for their families at the same time the owners are finding it difficult to pay the bank installments as buses are on halt for a month and half. Gupta asserted that if the government has taken so long in resolving the issue as per aspirations of people, it should also take charge of the losses suffered by different segments of society. He said that the Union Minister Shivraj Patil during his recent visit to Srinagar had assured the fruit growers and traders to compensate their so called losses he should extend this benefit to different suffering sections in Jammu region also, he added. |
