| Army helicopter crashes in eastern Ladakh | | | Early Times Reporter Udhampur | Aug 16
Three persons including two pilots of the army helicopter were killed when their helicopter crashed near a mountain pass in eastern Ladakh. The Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident. According to the official sources an Army helicopter with pilots Major Padmanabhan and Major S Ganapathy of Army Aviation Squadron located at Leh had taken off on a rescue mission in Eastern Ladakh yesterday to evacuate an Army casualty. The helicopter, however, lost contact with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) while returning to Leh. Search mission was immediately launched by another helicopter, but no contact location or the helicopter could be found out. The spokesman said that the search mission was aborted due to bad weather. However, today in the early morning aerial search was re-launched and the crashed helicopter was found near a mountain pass. Both the pilots Major Padmanabhan and Major S Ganapathy and the Army Jawan Sepoy E Narsaih, who was being evacuated, were killed in the accident. A Count of Inquiry has been ordered by the Army, the spokesman added. |
