Lambasting PDP for its irresponsible behaviour the J&K National Conference today accused it of vitiating the secular harmony of the state. In a joint statement issued here, the National Conference leaders said the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti's policies and statements are creating a communal divide in the state and disturbing the peace and brotherhood in the entire Jammu and Kashmir. Accusing PDP of arousing communal passions in the state, the NC leaders warned the PDP that ‘if they do not restrain themselves they will be responsible for dividing J&K on communal lines’. ‘No political party can behave in such an irresponsible manner in the present situation and destroy the secular credentials of the state’, the NC leaders observed and said the ‘PDP having realized that they have lost their moorings in the state are frustrated and out of sheer frustration they are behaving irresponsibly which will have dangerous consequences for Jammu and Kashmir. They said National Conference will not allow parties like PDP to behave in a manner in which communalism overtakes secularism and asserted that NC stood for secularism, equitable distribution of resources among all the three regions of the state, communal harmony and brotherhood. The joint statement advised PDP not to indulge in petty politicking for electoral gains and create fissures in the society and understand that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can no longer by befooled through the policy of double talk. The National Conference leaders also appealed to the Governor to address the grievances of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and find an early, respectable, honourable and amicable solution to the crisis that has befallen the state so that the communal forces do not harm peace in the state.
