Authorities ignore bad condition of Kishtwar- Sarthal road; locals upset
9/8/2020 12:03:27 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 7: While the condition of Kishtwar- Sarthal road is going from bad to worse with each passing day, the authorities keep on ignoring the vital link connecting the sacred shrine of Sarthal Devi or Mata Ashtdast Bujha (Goddess with 18 arms) temple.
Disappointed with the official apathy, the people of the area informed that though they have worked hard to build the road connectivity upto Sarthal Devi temple but their efforts did not yield desired results as the successive regimes failed to ensure proper maintenance and upgradation of the road link.
The locals told Early Times that the contractors keep on changing every week as so far at least five contractors have changed in the last 5/6 years but the road work has not been completed till date.
Irshad Ahmed Dev, Sarpanch of Karol B Panchayat of Sarthal area said that it is very unfortunate that there is an ancient temple in Sarthal of Kishtwar district named as Sarthal Devi and every year large number of pilgrims visit the ancient temple, but it is a pity that the Kishtwar district administration is not paying any attention towards this road.
Another local, Pawan Singh Parihar, a social worker from Sarthal, also expressed his displeasure with the district administration and R&B/PMGSY department, saying that the district administration Kishtwar has failed to pay attention towards the dilapidated condition of the road due to which not only the people of Sarthal but the devotees coming from outside also face problems.
“Despite the fact that the concerned department has spent crores of rupees on this road but that was of no use or benefit as the authorities fail to maintain the proper surface of the road causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters while traveling on this road,” said Pawan Singh Parihar. Another local, Jabbar Singh Parihar, said that District Development Commissioner Kishtwar had been requested hundreds of times that a large number of pilgrims come to Sarthal area and that the dilapidated road could lead to a mishap but nothing has been done so far.
The people of Sarthal have strongly appealed to Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir and the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to take effective measures for completing the pending work on Sarthal Road as soon as possible so that the people of the area do not face any problem while traveling.
