Jal Jeevan Mission: District action plan approved for Kathua
278 Water Supply Schemes proposed to cover 443 villages in three phases

KATHUA, Sept 8: The Jal Jeevan Mission Action plan for providing Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every village household was today approved for Kathua district by District Jal Jeevan Mission Committee, which met under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Om Parkash Bhagat here today. Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department, Surjeet Singh, informed the meeting that the department has formulated 278 water supply schemes at an estimated cost of Rs 1369.51 Cr to cover 443 villages of the district. He said the proposed plan will be implemented in three phases covering 14 blocks in first phase, 6 blocks in second and 9 blocks in third phase. The DDC said the Jal Jeevan Mission was aimed at to provide potable water supply of 55 LPCD of prescribed quality on a regular to the targeted household on long term basis. He said the Jal Shakti department along with the local community has to play a critical role for the success of the mission. He directed engineers of Jal Shakti Department to take up the work of water supply schemes on mission mode with focus on time bound completion. A sense of ownership has to be instilled in the village community as they are at the center of this mission. The community is also expected to play a vital role in water quality surveillance, the DDC added. Among others, the meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, DFO District Social Welfare Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer besides nominated members of District Jal Jeevan Mission Committee.
