RAMBAN, Sept 8: District Administration Ramban is gearing up to strengthen Rahat centres established along the Nashri to Tethar stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Ramban Administration’s Help and Aid to Travelers (RAHAT) centres– an imitative of the district administration were established to provide shelter to stranded passengers and transport operators in the event of disruption of traffic on the highway due to land slide, inclement weather or other reasons.
Twenty RAHAT Centres established along the national highway are proposed to be managed by the NGOs, government officials of different departments and by the PRIs to provide timely and better facility to stranded passengers during emergency.
In this regard, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Nazim Zai Khan discussed the modalities at a meeting with the concerned departments and other stakeholders, held here today.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Ashok Sharma; ASP, Sanjay Parihar; ACR, Drindhar Sharma; ACD, SDMs, Xens, DFOs, Tehsildars, Traffic department officers, PRI members and representatives of NGOs.
The DDC impressed upon the PRIs, NGOs and general public to extend support to the government agencies to make this vital initiative successful.
He directed the members of QRT, officials of Traffic police and civil administration besides the officials of essential departments to coordinate with the caretaker of RAHAT centres for its proper management.
Tehsildars were directed to monitor all activities including availability of adequate essential supplies to RAHAT centres.
DDC directed the president QRT, PRIs and government departments to submit the list of persons along with their contact numbers for deputing in the RAHAT Centres.
