Gupta appreciates role of Jammu Muslims
‘Appeals for defeating evil designs of enemy agents’

Appreciating the role of Jammu Muslims during the ongoing agitation on the SASB land issue, despite misleading propaganda by the separatist leaders, the former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has appealed to all people to stand united irrespective of caste, creed and religion to defeat the evil designs of the enemy agents, who are on the pay role of ISI of Pakistan and other agencies, and are bent upon to harm the tranquility.
Addressing a large gathering of Gujjars and other people of border village of Chakla in Hiranagar area today, Prof Gupta accused Congress and the National Conference of playing a dirty role in denying political reservation to the Gujjar Bakerwals, who were granted the Scheduled Tribe status in 1991, when a non-Congress government was at the centre and the state was under the Governor’s rule. He said that ‘this is the most opportune time to take necessary steps in this direction as the Governor is enjoying all the legislative powers and he can amend the Constitution to set up a delimitation commission which could give political reservation to Gujjar Bakerwals and also due share to each region’, he added.
He alleged that Congress leadership which wanted to stick to power has been dividing people on communal lines and in this context referred to the painful partition of the country. He held Congress responsible for creation of Pak-Occupied Kashmir as also enacting Article 370 of the Indian Constitution just to appease communalism which was inherited in the National Conference, he added.
Castigating Article 370, Prof Gupta observed that though this was a temporary provision but even after 60 years it is being retained and this has come to be a big folly on the part of the Congress. ‘Though it was stated as a measure to give special status to the people of this state but regretted that it has come to be a big curse as far as the interests of various communities are concerned’, the BJP leader remarked.
