District Legal Services Authorities organize events in all districts of UTs of J&K, Ladakh
J&K SLSA observes International Literacy Day

SRINAGAR, Sept 8: J&K State Legal Services Authority observed “International Literacy Day” here today under the supervision of Chief Justice of High Court of J&K and Patron-in-Chief J&K SLSA, Gita Mittal and Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, Justice Rajesh Bindal. Meanwhile, the event with theme “Literacy Teaching and Learning in the COVID-19 Crisis and Beyond” was observed by District Legal Services Authorities in all districts of UTs of J&K and Ladakh through Para Legal Volunteers, Retainer Lawyers and activists.
The objective of observing the day was to sensitize all sections of the society to understand and perceive literacy as a common responsibility of all to ensure that children and youth continue the process of learning throughout and even after the present crisis.
At Kupwara, DLSA observed the day by organizing an “Online Awareness Programme” which was attended by Retainer Lawyers of DLSA Kupwara and Para Legal Volunteers. Principal District & Sessions Judge Kupwara, Secretaries of Kupwara, Bandipora and Retainer Lawyers, Nadia and Bilal Malik spoke on the occasion highlighting the importance of literacy in our lives. At Samba, DLSA observed the day by conducting an “ Online Awareness Programme” through its Para Legal Volunteers, especially focusing on sensitization of girls regarding the importance of literacy for the purpose of overall development of their personality.
The Para Legal Volunteers conducted awareness sessions with different factions of the community on issues ranging from education of girl child, various Social Security and Welfare Schemes and the concept of literacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Reasi, DLSA celebrated the International Literacy Day by organizing “Online Awareness Programme” with the participation of students of three schools, Para Legal Volunteers and Retainer Lawyers underscoring the importance of literacy among the children and youth. At Anantnag, an online capacity building programme was organized by DLSA Anantnag on the topic of importance of literacy with special emphasis on Right to Education. The concept of literacy was highlighted as being a fundamental tool to transform lives. At Kathua, a webinar was organized by DLSA Kathua in collaboration with the Education Department emphasizing the importance of literacy for individual and communities in the society.
At Udhampur, an online essay competition was organized by DLSA for students of Government School Nagrota in which the students participated with great zeal and zest. At Bhaderwah, DLSA organized an awareness programme in collaboration with Social Welfare Department in which the concept of education as a basic right was highlighted and focused upon.
At Leh, an online awareness programme was organized by DLSA, Leh with students under skill training, PLVs and staff members underscoring the importance of literacy and learning during COVID-19 crisis. DLSA Ramban also observed the day with an objective to raise awareness on various issues for reminding communities of the importance of literacy for individual, communities and the need for intensifying efforts towards more literate societies.
The day was similarly observed by DLSAS of other districts across UTs of J&K and Ladakh, with enthusiasm.
